Megan - That's one of my favorites as well! If you think that is bad... well... maybe I shouldn't even mention the Onion exposé that I love about the selfish terminally ill child who bankrupted the Make-A-Wish foundation by wishing for unlimited wishes.

Karen - It's perhaps a good thing I didn't mention one of my other inspirations: Jim Henson.

David - If you ever come back to visit Oregon, I'll have to take you on the "Springfield, Oregon: this is why we're sure The Simpsons is based in this city, sightseeing tour".

In these past few weeks, I've had one of those headlines repeating constantly in my brain: Oh, Area Man's Aching Back.

Final answer: of course it's funny!

Chey - I'm sorry you've had to see that, now I'll have to kill you.

Allison - [crawling out from under my rock] I'll have something up this week! I've been on a small sabbatical. It hasn't really done me any good though, so I think it's time for me to get back into a routine.

Thanks for noticing my absence! :)

OMG Seymour Skinner = Jim Jamieson. I SEE the resemblance. This is quite a revelation. I'm speechless ...

Almost. I hope that you can make some TV time for the other great Groening 'toon Futurama.

I love the way the Onion makes it funny just by using the word "area" in their headlines.

Final disjointed comical question. Is the following line funny?

I just don't get cognitive linguistics!

'If a kid asks where rain comes from, I think a cute thing to tell him is "God is crying." And if he asks why God is crying, another cute thing to tell him is "Probably because of something you did."'

Has always been my favorite. Its terrible.

I often worry that my sense of humor is only funny to myself. You, at least, have the knowledge that your readers find you quite funny.

Besides, some things are funny enough to repeat.

Thanks Dave! I don't know where I'd be without Jack Handey & The Onion.

& I had a very special place in my heart for The Simpsons (I spent a lot of my life in Eugene OR, which is right next to a city named Springfield). Since Matt Groening is from OR, we were all pretty sure that everything around town inspired some part of the show. I'm still pretty suspicious that Simpson's character Seymour Skinner was roughly based on my high school principal: Jim Jamieson. Rumor had it, Jamieson & Groening knew each other.

Very funny post Adam! Thank you. Obviously your current TV deprivation has cost you not a bit in the humor department. Jack Handey and The Onion are the cream of the crop. Seinfeld was funny even though all the characters were so annoyingly shallow.

The Simpsons RULE.

Sign in front of Springfield Hospital: "Quality Care or Your Autopsy is Free!"

Allison - Please, please, do not let my anxieties have any bearing on you. And viewing the world through a Seinfeld lens isn't the same as plagiarism... Even original material has to be inspired by something.

Nimish - That sucks, we deserve credit where credit is due, damn it!

...On second thought, we should maybe just leave my remaining hair where it is. :D

I also 'borrow' subconsciously. But buggrit, my friends think I steal original ones as well. They won't give me credit at all! Just a "I think I've heard it somewhere before."

I'm a lowly software engineer as well, I empathise. :'(

Take my receding hairline— please.
